Smutne jest to, że żaden z pokazanych tu budynków dziś nie istnieje. W gmachu na rogu mieścił się niegdyś konsulat Szwecji. Natomiast wielka kopuła z prawej to tzw. Nowa Synagoga, która została spalona przez nazistów w 1938 roku w czasie tzw. Kristallnacht. Synagoga znajdowała się na rogu dzisiejszej Łąkowej i Podwala (wskazanie myszą na zdjęcie pokaże współczesny widok tego samego miejsca).

The tragic thing is that none of the these buildings exist today. The corner one was the Swedish consulate. The massive structure to the right is the Neue Synagogue, i.e. the New Synagogue, which was burnt to the ground by the Nazis during the infamous Kristallnacht of 1938. The synagogue stood at what is now the corner of Ulica Lakowa and Podwale. This photograph is one of the last images of the structure before its destruction (move the mouse pointer over the image to see how this place looks today).
